I recently purchased the book, Secrets of Lenormand. I’ve had a set of gypsy oracle cards for a while, and I was hoping this book would help me learn how to read them with more detail. However, 5 of the cards in my gypsy deck are different from the Lenormand deck. As a temporary fix, I penciled in the name of the Lenormand card on the 5 gypsy cards.
Rather than buying a new Lenormand deck, I decided to make my own. I began collecting images of vintage Valentine’s Day cards online, thinking I’ll eventually print them on card stock to create my deck. After realizing all that was involved and the time it would probably take me to get them perfect, I decided to come up with another solution. Eventually I’ll make the vintage Valentine’s deck, but in the meantime…
So here’s a sneak peek at my latest project:
We have several cardboard boxes laying around, and I was trying to think of a craft project that would utilize them. Using the inside of a roll of painter’s tape as a guide, I traced and cut 36 circles (a Lenormand deck has 36 cards). This seems like a lot of circles to cut, but cut them while watching a good movie, and you won’t even notice. Then, I started painting! For the past two days, the coffee table in the living room has been covered in my painting supplies. I didn’t want to be cooped up in my studio for hours while doing this project, so I camped out in the living room instead. Lemme tell ya, I have seen several movies while doing this project. I am a master at coming up with projects that enable me to watch hours of movies guilt-free. Yesterday I watched the Karate Kid. I loved the part near the beginning when Daniel was helping Mr. Miyagi cut the Bonsai plants. Miyagi said to cut it following the picture in his head, and Daniel asked, “What if the picture in my head is wrong?” Mr. Miyagi told him that if the picture came from inside him, it was always the right one. I think that’s such a beautiful message! Ahh…
I only have 10 more discs to paint. Then, I’ll flip them all over and paint the backs. You may have figured out by now that it’s not feasible to hold and shuffle 36 discs of cardboard comfortably in your hands. My plan is to put all the discs in a grab bag, mix them up, and draw the discs from the bag to do my reading.
More pictures to come!
